On Wednesday 18^th September Harrison and Hetherington held their sale of calves at Borderway Mart where they sold 311 at the weekly sale.  All shape and sizes would be sharper on the week.  Topping the sale at £670 was a solid British Blue bull from A V Elwen, Netherfield, Irthington.  Messrs Roan, Boreland of Colvend sold a smart 4 month Blue bull to £590.  Angus bulls topped at £560 form G L Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield.  Limousin bulls topped at £560 for an outstanding 3 month old Beef Bred calf from Richard Wilson, Broomberry.  G & S E Fox, Windy Hill sold 3 month old Dairy bred Limousin bulls to £555.  Others same age sold to £545 from K & MR Coulthard, Laversdale Farm.   J J Henderson & Son, Park House sold a pair of Angus bull to £515.

Heifers topped at £510 for a 3 month old Limousin from Boreland of Colvend, Dalbeattie. J Walker, Marlborough Hall, Egremont sold a pair of 3 month old Limousin heifers to £495. Richard Wilson, Boomberry sold a 2 month old Limousin heifer to £460. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £455 from Laversdale Farm. IT & EM Carlyle, Bleaberry Rigg sold a pair of 2 month old Black Limousin heifers to £450.

Well bred, young calves were the trade of the day, seeing East Scales Ltd, Gretna sell 2 month old British Blue bulls to £475. One month old British Blue bulls to £460 from RT Pattinson, Kinkry Hill. One month old British Blue heifers to £390 twice from Kinkry Hill and Bowe Dairy Farming, Chalk Lodge. Two month old Hereford heifers sold to £350 from R & S McKie, Stoneybrook. AV Elwen, Netherfield sold Norwegian Red bulls to £350 with Montbeliarde bulls selling to £305 from Messrs Beaty, Stonewalls. Holstein bulls sold to £350 from W Schug, Bongate Moor. Black & White bulls were very good to sell averaging £133 per head.
