“LATTER FAIR” SALE OF MULE GIMMER LAMBS

On Thursday 19th September, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the sale of mule gimmer lambs in Borderway’s “Latter Fair” Sale. A total sale average of £164.60 (+£43.11) was achieved with NEMSA lambs averaging £165.58 and non-NEMSA £158.55. A scintillating show of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs were forward to a packed ringside of buyers ensuring all runs exceeded expectations and set the bar for others sales to attempt to catch. Before the sale, the pre-sale show took place with this year’s judges Mr Stephen Ridley and Eddie Albutt, with Richard Fox acting as referee. After overlooking the quality shown in Borderway decided that the champion rosette and Dodd & Co Challenge Trophy to John & Mandy Smith-Jackson, Lipwood, which later went to sell for £350.
Topping the sale was Richard Ridley, Woodhall, with his third prize pen making £380.
Pen after pen of quality went under the hammer as people witnessed a sensational trade throughout. A total of 465 lambs went to sell for £180 or more. Some great runs were seen with Mr Smith-Jackson, Lipwood, selling 80 lambs to average £213. Messrs Ridley, Woodhall, sold 264 to average £177.25, Matty & Gavin Forster, Coombe Cragg, sold 150 to average £166.13, Messrs Kyle, Spout Bank, sold an incredible 818 lambs to average £142.63. The second prize lambs from Chloe and Ken James, Midtodhills, sold for £300 per life, their run of 306 went to sell for £156.52.
Many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage.
