On Wednesday 10th March Harrison & Hetherington conducted their annual spring show and sale of 1000 continental cross steers and heifers.
The pre-sale judging was held on Tuesday night and fell into the expert hands of Mr James Duerden, Ulverston who had 54 exceptional exhibits to cast his eye over. He awarded the Championship to the first prize British heifer from Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait who went on to sell for £6000 to Gareth Corrie, Northern Ireland. This heifer was sired by Warehams Mickey and out of the ¾ Limousin Cookie Dough who won Reserve Commercial Heifer Champion at the Royal Highland Show. Messrs Robertson, also claimed the Reserve Championship again with a British Blue x heifer sired by Warehams Mickey. This heifer had won the baby beef class and went on to sell for £6800 to Wilson Peters, Crieff.

Commenting on the show, judge James said “an outstanding turnout considering the uncertain climate truly giving credit to the farming community, keeping the wheels turning and the economy moving in such uncertain times.” Commenting on his Champion he said it was “the outstanding beast in today’s line up due to her correctness, fullness of lion and overall tremendous quality throughout – showing real show potential.” The Reserve Champion “oozed sweetness and correctness throughout with a great locomotion but on the day the Champion just had the edge over her”.
Topping the section at £7000 was the 2nd prize haltered Limousin heifer from Messrs Hardisty, How Hall sired by Uptonley Living the Dream. She sold to Mr Martin Barker purchasing on behalf of Gary Bell, Haas Side Farms, Lockerbie.
