PRIME CATTLE: Yet another great entry of 66 prime steers and heifers were forward with quality up on the week along with trade as there seems no stopping the rise in trade week on week. The 23 steers forward averaged a whopping £2072.09 and sold to the days top of £2379.44 for a 784kg Limousin cross steer for Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith. Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton, sold the next best Limousin cross at £2300.05 for 781kg, the same home also sold the best Charolais cross to £2311.54 for 836kgs, Messrs Kennedy, North Coushaw, Locherbie, sold their first of the season a 789kg Charolais cross to £2284.46, all purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £2045.80 for 661kg for Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan, purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.
Top price per kilo steer came from Messrs Beaty, Longhorn, Egremont, selling a 692kg Limousin cross to 315.50kg purchased by A & D Meats.
Heifers sold to a top of £2308.43 for 734kg Limousin cross for Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith and purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis. Messrs Beaty, Langhorn sold next best at £2159.92 for a 784kg Limousin cross, Charolais to £2073.64 for 641kg and purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shop, Corby Hill, Brampton, Messrs Dent, Elm House, Penrith sold a Charolais cross to £2068.88 for 675kg to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan, sold 660kg to £2003.10 to £2003.10 for a British Blue cross.
Top overall price per kilo was 327.50p and went to a 576kg Limousin cross for Messrs Maw, WIntershields Farm, Carlisle, purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers. Messrs Beaty, Langhorn, sold a 636kg Limousin cross to 322.50p and was purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.

PRIME BULLS: A good entry of 84 prime bulls forward seeing a lift in trade on the week, some bulls would bee 15 pence dearer on the week, mainly best fleshed sorts, regardless of shape. Topping the sale was a 1082kg Limousin bull at £3132.39 for Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbett Farm, Jedburgh, purchased by A & D Meats.
Messrs Wilshaw, Oulton Hall, Wigton, sold a Blonde to £2683.43 for 967kgs. Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Kirkbampton, sold a 811kg British Blue cross to £2574.93 and 789kg Simmentals for Messrs Houldey, Kirkleton House, Lockerbie, sold to £2173.70.

A top price per kilo of 318.50p went to a Maine An Jou cross for Messrs Bell, Winterhope, Lockerbie, weighing 648kg to Bowland Foods, Preston, two bulls sold to 317.50p, firstly for Messrs Wilson, Reddings Farm, Moffat, selling 682kg Limousins and secondly Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle, with this 811kg British Blue cross.

Dairy bred bulls sold to £1699.53 for 785kg Holstein Friesian for Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown, purchased by CJ Anderson, Dumfries. 749kg Friesians from the same home sold to £1644.06 and sold to Morgan Helliwell, Rochdale, a top price per kilo of 247.50p went to a 641kg Fleckvieh for Messrs Pinguey, Haythwaite Lane, Carlisle, and purchased by Bowland Foods, Friesians to 238p for Messrs Preston, Wed Holme, Wigton twice and Holstein Friesians to 236.50p for 603kg for Messrs Dixon, Smallthwaite Farms, Penrith.

PRIME LAMBS : On Monday 23^rd September Harrrison & Hetherington held their weekly prime and cast sheep sale, a smaller show of sheep then seen in recent weeks heightened purchasers urgency to secure stock resulting in a fabulous trade through out, in particular a rise in prime lambs which had a rise of 12ppk on the week. A plainer show of ewes on the whole was forward with once again the honus being on heavier sheep. The leading price of the day was £280 for pure texel ewes from Kedzie Farms, Scottish Borders. 2625 prime lambs sold to average an impressive 305ppk which shows a rise of 45ppk on the year. Sale leaders today were two pens of magnificent Dutch Texel cross lambs from local supporters Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Hexham which sold at £222 or 529ppk to weekly volume buyers Yorkshire Halal Meat Ltd, Ossett. Heavy lambs sold for £200 per head for a great pen of texels from Messrs Graham, Harley Croft, Wigton. Pen after pen of quality export and heavy lambs smashed the £150 barrier with many £170 to £222. Overall an exceptional days trading was had and a huge thank you to all vendors who turned out sheep.
