Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison and Hetherington saw 4,303 head forward at Kirkby Stephen mart on Tuesday comprising 2255 prime lambs, 1464 store lambs and 584 cast sheep. 

Topping the sale at £210 was a 54 kilo Beltex cross from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside with this home also selling a pair of 51 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £206 and another pair of 51 kilo Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £205. 

Topping at 434.1p per kilo was a pen of four 41 kilo Beltex cross lambs which made £178 from Charlotte and Georgia Davies, Top Field Farm, Leicestershire the sisters also sold a pen of six 40 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £168 (420p per kilo), with another pen of 13 40 kilo lambs making £164 (410p per kilo).  Messrs Pickard, Cheney House Farm, Leicestershire sold a pen of fourteen 43 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £176 (409.3p per kilo).  Messrs Skelton, Low House Farm, Maryport sold a pen of 47 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £186.  Messrs Nelson, Rosgill Head, Penrith sold 50 kilo Texel cross lambs to make £182.  Messrs Richardson, Croft House Farm, Ravenstonedale sold 49 kilo Texel cross lambs to make £181.  Charollais cross lambs sold to £175 from Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackthorpe. 

Mule lambs sold to £134 from Messrs Hayhurst, Murton View, Appleby.  Good Mule lambs also topping at 274.5p per kilo for a pen of 47 kilo which made £129 from Messrs Richardson, Croft House Farm, Ravenstonedale. 

Once again a leading SQQ average of 313.35p per kilo and an overall average of 307.7p per kilo and £138.21 per head for 2,255 lambs of all breeds and weights was achieved.  58 pens and 299 lambs sold between £160 and £210, 119 pens and 579 lambs sold between £150 and £210.  11 pens and 69 Lambs sold between 400p and 434p per kilo, 50 pens and 328 lambs sold between 350p and 434p per kilo.  451 Beltex cross lambs sold to average a whopping £155.81 (360p per kilo).

Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pen of Swaledale ewes to top at £102.

Cast rams topped at £198 for a Beltex cross from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby.
