Sale of Swaledale Lambs

On Friday 20th September, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their sale of Swaledale Lambs within Middleton in Teesdale Market. A total of 4700 went under the hammer to sell for an average of £96.06 +£13 with the top end being in extreme demand whilst younger fell lambs looked a little harder to place. Before the per sale show took place with this years judge being William Wallace & Michael Burnop undertaking with Jack buckle as referee. After looking over the pens the decision for the champion pen went to Burncroft farms which later went to sell for top price of £300 selling to A C Ridley & J C Archer. The second prize pen from F & MP Allinson & Son, West Briscoe went to sell for £220 and whose run of 278 went to average £139.81. C R Raine & Son, Stanhope Gate topped at £250 for a pen of 10 & whose run of 224 averaged £142.88. top average however went to the Burncroft Farm whose run of 50 averaged an incredible £168. The Stronger runs of lambs were exceptional to sell as purchasers were looking for strength & quality as they look to maintain top quality bred mule lambs however the younger fell lambs still met a nice trade but meet some resistance in certain areas. Top lambs sold regularly at £140+ with regular lambs selling between £90 - £110. A young customer base was present ensuring the long term future of the sale will be secured. A great day was had with customers delighted at the days trading.
