Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,081 sheep were forward consisting of 2,385 prime lambs and 696 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £214 where a pair of 58kg Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

This home also sold a pair of 49kg Beltex cross lambs to make £185, a pair of 46kg to make £172 and a pen of 43kg lambs making £163 (379.1p/kg).

Topping at 402.4p/kg where a pen of 41kg Beltex cross lambs which made £165 from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Mary Port with this home also selling a pen of nine 41kg lambs to make £158 (385.4p/kg).

Messrs Stobart, Stotley Hall Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pair of Texel cross lambs to make £176.

Rouge cross lambs sold to £148 (379.5p/kg) for a pen of 39kg from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick.

Nice types, and meaty light lambs where a good trade with a pen of 20 36kg Herdwick lambs making £103 (286.1p/kg)

Light weight Hill Cheviot lambs weighing 36kg sold to £110 (305.6p/kg) from Messrs Whitfield, Low Stow Bank, Ennerdale.

An SQQ sale average of 291.52p/kg and an overall average of 286.27p/kg for 2385 lambs which includes over 500 mule and horned lambs.

Bonny Boys Show

The annual ‘Bonny Boys’ show for pens of Mule Wethers was held with judging being carried out by Micheal Scott, Northallerton.

Taking the first place was a pen of 10 well marked and well made Mule lambs from local breeders Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange which weighed 51kg and sold for £140 (274.5p/kg), this home also topped the Mules at 278p/kg for a pen of 50kg which made £139. The second place pen was consigned by Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton which weighed 55kg and sold for £149.50 with another pen of 10 50kg Mules making £136.05 (273p/kg) from this house.

Topping the Cast Sheep at £274 was a Texel Ewe from O Henderson, Winchester Lodge.

Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe Sold Texel Ewes to £262 with this home also selling Beltex ewes to £248.

Topping the Mules at £139 was a Ewe from Messrs Park, Low Deepslack.

Paul Chester, Grassgill Lodge sold a Billy Goat to achieve £160.
