Borderway Store Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE:   Once again another fantastic entry of 646 store cattle forward all mainly 15-32 months old.  Trade on the week would undoubtedly be sharper with renewed interest around the ring side.  Topping the sale overall was a Limousin x steer from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna selling to £2030.  Next best was a 15 month old Charolais cross steer from annual consignors Messrs Baty, Broom Hill, Carlisle run of 50 Charolais crosses, this steer topped their sales at £2000.  Dairy bred British Blue crosses from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth sold to £1880 as did a Beef Shorthorn from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae.  Messrs Johnstone, Westray sold next highest with a Hereford cross at £1830 and Messrs Martin, Shillafield, Hexham sold their marvellous run of cattle to a top of £1800 for an Aberdeen Angus cross.

Heifers peaked at £2000 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Kirkbride, Flimby Hall, Maryport and £1920 for two others from Messrs Johnstone, Low Flow, Wigton.  Charolais to £1880 from Messrs Deane, Rigg Head, Carlisle.  British Blue crosses to £1790 for dairy breeds from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton and Aberdeen Angus to £1770 from Messrs Deane, Rigg Head,

Dairy bred steers sold to £1620 for a pen of 4 Fleckviehs from Messrs Watson, Beech House, Brampton and to £1490 for two Holstein Friesians from Messrs Guardhouse, Aikton House, Wigton and finally Danish Red to £1420 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.
