North Country Cheviot Hill Ram Sale

Lockerbie, Sydney Place, Lockerbie, DG11 2JA

On Wednesday 25th September, at Lockerbie Mart, Harrison and Hetherington held their annual show and sale of Hill Rams.

A centre record for a North Country Cheviot hill type was achieved at Harrison and Hetherington’s Lockerbie centre which matched the breed record of £28,000.

This was for the two-shear ram, Whitehope Dark Knight, from Norman and David Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow, Selkirk, alongside shepherd, Matt Carryer. Backed by home-bred genetics he is a son of Whitehope Batman and bred from a Whitehope ewe. Taking home the record breaker was Martyn Cook, Dorrery Farm, Halkirk.

Two rams then made £12,000, firstly was Gillesbie Davinci, from Gillesbie Farms, Boreland, Lockerbie. Brought out by shepherd, Alistair Stewart this boy is backed by home-bred genetics on both sides and found a new home with the Woods of Potholm. 

George Irving’s pen leader from Mountbenger, Yarrow, Selkirk matched that price tag when selling to David and Ian Walker, Alticane, Girvan. Benger Dambuster is sired by Attonburn Apollo and out of a home-bred ewe.

The next top of £10,000 was reached 4 times, firstly by the pen leader from the Calla flock of David Baillie. Calla Donald, sired by Hownam Grange Almighty stays local to his breeder with his new owner Messrs Craig, Normangill flock, Biggar.

A pair of Hethpool Xceed sons from the Attonburn pen fetched the same price selling to the North House flock, Hawick and his brother going to the Bedshiel flock of Messrs Elliot, Galashiels. Later in the sale the Alticate flock sold their pen leader, Alticane Dynomite, an Attonburn All Night Baby son to Rock Farming, Northumberland.

Philiphaugh Estates purchased A Badnaloch Tip Top Tup son from the Stouphill flock of WD Allen, for £9000, at the same price, the penultimate pen of CM Reid, Portmore sold Portmore Dynamo, out of a homebred ewe and by Raehills Apollo  to Elliott, Kelso.
