OVER 500 DAIRY CATTLE SELL AT BORDERWAY

A bumper entry of dairy cattle were forward for the October Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale with 508 head selling.  Trade topped at £3000 to average £2119 for a quality consignment of recently calved cows and heifers, with buyers recorded from 19 counties across England, Scotland and Wales.

Leading trade at £3000 was Redcroft Arabia Lurinde from Thomas Blackwood. This fresh calved heifer by Gold-N-Oaks Arabia sold giving 35kg a day to Messrs Davies, Conwy.

Next top at £2900 was Drointon Showtime Bloom from James L Gray, backed by 11 generations of VG and Excellent dams. Fresh on the 18^th September she sold to Messrs Millar, Lockerbie giving 30kg.

The Logan family from Ayrshire sold Holehouse Jordy Tico Red at £2850 to Messrs Davies. Sired by McGucci Jordy Red and out of an EX91 classified dam she sold giving 38kg.

Top price in-calf heifer at £1950 was Stevenson’s Buttercup 88, an Ayrshire heifer one month off calving to Royal Flush Sea King from Messrs Stevenson, Stranraer. Sired by Stevenson’s Blast from the Past and out of a dam by Cuthill Towers Roderick, she sold to Messrs Gribbon, Dumfries.

£1700 was top price for bulling heifers paid by Ve-Tech Holsteins for Feizor Dropbox S Melody from Messrs Booth. This July 2023-born heifer is backed by 9 generations of VG and Excellent dams.

Grazing cows sold to a top of £1400 for a 4^th lactation cow due May 2025 from Arbigland Farm, part of the Farming Partnership. She sold to Messrs Wilson, Stranraer.

Messrs Shuttleworth from Blencowe dispersed their youngstock in the sale to a top of £1250 for a run of five served heifers selling to Messrs Forshaw, Longridge. While heifer calves sold to £650 for a run of January and February born calves selling to Messrs Huston, Torthorwald, Dumfries.
