Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 4,053 sheep were forward consisting of 2,454 prime lambs, 1,045 cast sheep and 554 Store lambs were forward.

Topping the prime lambs at £204 was a pair of 51kg Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside purchased by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby. With this home also selling 53kg Texel cross lamb to make £201.

Topping at 441p/kg were a pen of five 39kg Beltex lambs which sold for £172 from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan. With this home also selling a pen of five 41kg to make £174 (424.4p/kg) and another pen of five 41kg to make £164 (400p/kg).

Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport sold a pen of eight 41kg Beltex lambs to make £179 which is 436.6p/kg, also a pen of 11 45kg lambs making £175 from this home.

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby sold a pen of 5 42kg Beltex lambs to make £183 (435.7p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of fourteen 42kg lambs to make £177 (421.4p/kg). with a pen of four 49kg from this home selling to make £177.

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor, Richmond sold 50kg and 51kg Beltex lambs both making £185 with this home also selling a pen of 12 45kg lambs to make £178 (395.6p/kg).

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of seven 43kg Beltex lambs to make £176 (409.3p/kg) with another pen of four 48kg lambs making £176 from this home.

With a pen of seven 40kg Rouge cross lambs sold to make £156 (415p/kg) from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Bassenthwaite.

Suffolk lambs topped at £183 from Messrs Somerville, Lansmere, Penrith.

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor sold a pen of twelve 57kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £170 (298.2p/kg).

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm topped the Suffolks at 307.7p/kg for a pen of 52kg which made £160.

With this home also selling 50kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £180.

Mule lambs sold to £150 from Messrs Ewin, Eden Flatt.

Messrs Dobson, White Kirkley Farm, Frosterley selling a pen of Mules to make £147. With this home topping the mules at 281.6p/kg for a pen of 49kg which sold for £138.

A pen of thirteen 50kg mules sold to make £140 (280p/kg) from Messrs Coulthard, Bridge End Farm, Westgate.

Kilnstown Farms, Carlisle sold two pens of 22 and 21 x 48kg Mules to make £135 (281.3p/kg) with this run of 86 Mule lambs selling to average £134.51 (280.2p/kg) for 48kg.

Kirkby Mart continued its run of successful sales, the “boom” kicks back in the boom town, bucking the national trend and been pounds dearer than all markets so far this week with a SQQ average of 304.23p and an overall of 300.62p/kg and £137.91 with these averages including over 500 mule and horned lambs.

Kirkby consistently leading the country averages week on week.

Cast sheep topped at £206 for a pair of Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, Penrith.

Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall, Appleby in Westmorland sold a pair of Texel ewes to £198.

Mule ewes sold to £143 also from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, with another pen of 19 ewes selling to £142 from Messrs Hall, Lankaber, Maulds Meaburn.

Cast rams sold to £195 for Texels from Messrs Weighell, Foxton Livestock

With Beltex tups topping at £188 from Messrs Harvey, Meadow Bank, Soulby.
