Harrison & Hetherington held the opening day of the three day annual Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association ‘C’ District ram sale with a catalogued entry of 130 aged and ram lambs were on offer.
Topping the sale at £10,000 was the overall champion ram lamb from Burncroft Farm, Eggleston, Barnard Castle which was purchased by Messrs Lister, Windermere. This home also ram lambs to £1800, £1500 and £1100 selling to Messrs Stobbart, Grains O Beck, Barnard Castle, Messrs Collinson, Billingshield, East Gate and to Messrs Collingwood, Stewart Shield Meads, Stanhope.
S Tully and J Thompson, Barnard Castle sold two ram lambs to make £1200 selling to Messrs Mitchell, Parrick House, Barnard Castle and to Messrs Dent, Wyse Hill, Lunedale.
The first prize c district ram lamb was awarded to D Birbeck, Kirkby Stepen which sold for £900 to Messrs Wearmouth, Gilses Farm, South Stainmore.
A 97 percent clearance with 33 rams lambs selling to average £754.24 which was up £230.49.
Aged rams topped at £4500 twice firstly for lot 34 a from Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, Lunedale which sold to Harry Pritchard, Evinstones Farm, Rochester. Also reaching £4500 was lot 41 which was the second prize two shear ram also from Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, selling to Messrs Spensley, Castle Gate Farm, Castle Bolton.
Messrs Wilson, Arngill House sold another tup to reach £4000 for a six shear ram selling to Messrs Dixon, Hartley Castle and Messrs White, Rigg Farm. Also selling tups to £3500 selling to Messrs Harrison, Sleddale Hall, Wet Sleddale. With this home also selling aged tups to £3000 selling to Messrs Capstick, Whicham Hall Farm, Millom.
The nine stock tups forward from Arngill House sold to average £2588.89.
Messrs Emerson, Haggate Farm, Eastgate sold their aged tup to make £3800 to Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras.
Messrs Emmott, Whitelees Farm, Consett sold their aged tup to make £3800 selling to Messrs Porter, Low Oxnop Farm, Richmond.
Messrs Nelson, Lainger House, Skipton sold an aged top to make £3500 selling to Fairplace Farm Cowling, Near Keighly
Messrs Cowperthwaite, Tennant Gill Farm, Settle sold a six shear ram to £3500 selling to Messrs Gorst, Appletree, Quernmore.
Fourteen aged tups sold between £2000 and £4500 with an 99 percent clearance to average a wonderful £1106.52 which was up a whopping £443.08 on the year.
