ANNUAL ‘NEWCASTLETON’ SALE OF BLUE GREY CATTLE

TUESDAY 22^nd OCTOBER 2024

On Tuesday 22^nd October, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Great Annual Special sale of Blue Grey In Calf Heifers, Bulling Heifers and heifer calves along with the sale of Suckler calves and native breed store cattle at Lockerbie, whereby an excellent entry of 622 Blue Greys and 322 suckler and store calves were presented to the usual huge array of customers from all regions of the United Kingdom.

A marvellous trade was seen throughout surpassing Vendors expectations. The sale kicked off with the in calf heifers which saw a healthy average of £1863.22 and sold to a top of £2600 from Messrs Flintoft, Sourhope.

Bulling heifers were far easier sold than expected, seeing a day’s top of £1550 seen on 6 occasions firstly from Messrs Telford, Holme Head selling 4 to Messrs Cockburn, Fountainside Farm, Midlothian and 2 from Messrs Bell, the Bloch selling to Rhindhu Farm Ltd, Chapeltown.

Top price heifer calves was attained by Messrs Hogg & Son, Milnholm for 2 pens of 4 at twelve month olds selling for £1300 to Dalmahoy Farms, West Lothian.

The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr David Cornthwaite formally of Balgray Hill Farm, Lockerbie, who awarded the first prize pen of 4 or more bulling heifers to Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank which later sold to £1400 to Messrs Stobart, Croglin High Hall. The first prize pen of 4 eight month old heifer calves went to Messrs Moore, Softley Farm purchased by Messrs Thomson, Hownam Grange.
