Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an excellent entry of 1203 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 530 Store Cattle, 230 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 330 Calves and 83 Dairy cattle in the Border and Lakeland Club Sale.

STORE CATTLE – A superb entry of 530 strong forward store cattle with a lot less quality on offer.  Trade would easily surpass that of previous weeks with a day’s overall top of £1570 for a superb Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan.  Messrs Root, Kilnford Croft,  Dumfries sold another to £1520.  British Blue crosses from Messrs Robinson, Burtholme, Brampton to £1390.  Heifer trade remains fantastic with no less than 31 selling to £1300 and above.

Steers sold to a day’s top of £1510 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Carlisle.  Beef Shorthorn to £1475 twice from the same vendors.  Herefords to £1460 twice from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe. Charolais achieved the same price from Messrs Beattie , Shield Green, Carlisle and Aberdeen Angus to £1420 from weekly supporters Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

A large entry of black and white dairy steers forward and were also exceptional to sell with a days top of £1290 attained by Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Carlisle for a Friesian.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, sold another to £1280.  Holstein peaked at £1280 also for a pen of four from Messrs Rudd, Grassings Farm, Wigton.  Montbelairdes from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae Gretna to £1315 and Fleckviehs to £1280 from Messrs Addison, Greystones, Penrith. WEANED CATTLE: A much larger show of 260 weaned calves were forward.   Quality types were very well bid for with a top price of £1280 being paid for a tremendous Limousin bull from Messrs Potts, Chapel House, Talkin.  Both strong and small cattle were in good demand and suckled calves were well sought after.  A 7 month old Limousin x heifer from Messrs Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold to £1160 and bullocks topped at £1010 from M & M Sherwen, Tarn How, Seascale
