Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale on Tuesday night, when 2499 sheep were forward consisting of 2019 Prime lambs and 480 Cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £200 where a pair of 51kg Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton which where purchased by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Topping the sale at 397.6p/kg was a 42kg Beltex cross lamb which sold for £167 from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport.

This home also sold 51kg Beltex cross lambs to make £173, a pen of three 45kg making £168, and a pen of four 43kg to make £165.50 (384.9p/kg).

Messrs Teward, New View, Darlington sold heavy Texel tup lambs to make £190, £185 and £180.

Messrs Morley, Hadderdale, Great Asby sold 60kg Texel cross lambs to make £183, and 54kg lambs at £175.

Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle sold 58kg lambs to make £181.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pair of 42kg lambs to make £165 (392.9p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold 48kg Rouge cross lambs to make £175 with a pen of 30 42kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £164.50 (391.7p/kg) and a pen of twelve 41kg Rouge cross lambs to make £161 (392.7p/kg).

Suffolk cross lambs topped at £164 and 348.9p/kg for a pen of six 47kg lambs from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon.

Mule lambs topped at £137 from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon.

Messrs Burrow & Rutter Armstrong, Langwathby sold a pen of nine 53kg mules to make £135, with this home also selling a pen of thirteen 47kg Mules to make £123.50 (262.8p/kg).

Kilnstown Farms, Carlisle sold a pen of forty 50kg Mules to make £128.50.

Messrs Fisher, Haber Crosby, Ravensworth and Messrs Richardson, Croft House, Ravenstonedale sold pens of thirty four and eight 49kg Mules to make £126.50 (258.2p/kg).

Once again Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep ring missed the worst of the decline in trade at the latter end of the previous week, bucking the national trend and achieving a SQQ average of 305.16p/kg and an overall sale average of 290.08p/kg.

30 pens and 116 lambs sold between £160 and £200.

63 pens and 299 lambs sold between £150 and £200.

Messrs Dowson & Sartin, Battle Hill Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pair of Texel ewes to make £232.

Swaledale ewes sold to £90 from Messrs Sowerby & Whitfield, Cote House Farm, Bleatarn.

Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill sold a pen of eleven Swaledale ewes to make £85.
