Harrison & Hetherington Ltd Kirkby Stephen held their annual Luke Fair sale of 3000 breeding sheep.
The sale topped twice at £800 firstly for 4 shear Swaledale ewes from the dispersal sale of Mr K Sowerby, Ghyll Brow, Brough with these been purchased by Messrs Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough, with this home also selling 3 shear ewes to £280 and 3 and four crop ewes to £250. The consignment of Swaledale ewes sold to average £238.89.
Also reaching £800 was a pen of two and three crop faulty in the udder Swaledale ewes from Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Bowes with these been purchased by Shaun Procter, Villa Farm, Kirkby Stephen. This home also sold another pen of two and three crop Swaledale ewes to make £340 selling to Messrs Nattrass, Shieldhill Top, Garrigill and another pen of faulty bag ewes selling to £250 with a pen of ten 3 crop ewes selling to £235. The consignment of 30 Swaledale ewes from Valley Farm sold to average £282.60.
Messrs Rukin, Gatehouse Farm, Weststonesdale sold a pen of three crop Swaledale ewes to make £460 selling to Messrs Nicholson, Slip Cottage, Barras.
Messrs Marwood, Hill Top Farm, Newsham sold a pen of Swaledale ewes to make £310 also selling to Messrs Nattrass.
The consignment of 42 Swaledale ewes from Messrs Nelson, Lainger House, Skipton sold to top at £208 for a pen of ten and averaged £198.48
Messrs Sowerby, Ghyll Brow sold Swaledale shearling to £270 selling to Messrs Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough, with other pens of shearlings from this home selling to £260.
Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras sold a pen of fourteen Swaledale ewes to make £230 selling to Messrs Bell, Birniehall Farm, Carnluke.
Messrs Sowerby, Amos Hill, Slaggyford sold Dutch Texel shearlings to top at £265 selling to Messrs Coulthard, Gill House, Baldersdale, with other pens of Dutch Texel ewes selling to £242 to Messrs Rothery, Millom.
Texel cross shearlings sold to £230 twice and £225 from Messrs Wilson, Bankdale Farm, Carlisle.
Beltex shearlings sold to £225 for a pen from Messrs Brown, Mount Pleasant Farm, Barnard Castle.
Texel cross ewes sold to £222 and £215 from Messrs Coulthard, Gill House, Baldersdale.
Mule ewes sold to £198 from Messrs Fawcett, Arngill House, Stainmore.
Gimmer lambs topped at £235 for Bluefaced Leicester 235 from Messrs Twentyman, Applegarth, Great Strickland selling to Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, Asby. With this home selling another pen of Bluefaced Leicester to £200 to Jasmin Sowerby, Appleby.
Messrs Twentyman also topped the mule Gimmer lambs at £170 for a pen of five.
Swaledale gimmer lambs sold to £130 for four pens of twelve, ten and five all from Messrs Gibson, Easterbeck House, Barnard Castle.
A packed ring side of buyers from all parts of the country as far as field a Aberdeen to Somerset which ensured a flying trade for all classes of breeding sheep was witnessed some classes been the dearest of the season seen.
1005 Swaledale ewes sold to average £142.23
Breeding rams topped at £900 twice firstly for a five shear Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Dawson, The Lodge, Kendal purchased by Messrs Bousfield, Hegdale Farm, Bampton.
Also making £900 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Messrs Morland, Starrah which sold to Messrs Hodgson and Peart, Westgate.
Texel shearlings sold to £780 twice firstly from Messrs Wharton, Tebay and also from Messrs Pedley, Prospect Farm Cottage.
All breeds and ages of tups forward sold to average £552.30.
