CARNDUFF HERD STEALS THE SHOW AT BORDERWAY

131 Holstein heifers average £2350

The November Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had a packed catalogue of 424 dairy cattle consigned from across the North of England and Scotland.  Buyers from 21 counites were recorded on the buyers lists resulting in a brisk trade for all cattle.  Trade topped at £3000 on five occasions with 131 Holstein heifers averaging £2350 with only 11 correct heifers selling for less than £2000.

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the Bryson family from Dykehead Farm near Lesmahgow stealing the show.  They sold seven cows and heifers to average £2735 with three selling to a joint top price of £3000. First was for a third lactation cow giving 50kgs she was sired by Rubels and had produced over 10000kgs as a milking two year old.  The second to sell for £3000 was a second lactation cow sired by Rainstorm, she was giving 47kgs and was bred from a VG87 Larcrest Cancun dam.  They also sold Carnduff Applejax Princess for £3000, she was a tremendous heifer with an amazing udder and was giving 40kgs.

The Hastwell family from The Building Farm near Kirby Stephen sold a tremendous group of cows and heifers and topped at £3000 for Belahvalley Casper Fushia, she was sired by Casper and was giving 41kgs.

Wayne Inman from Witheslack Farm near Kendal sold a very milky group of cows to average £2800 and topped at £3000 for a DG Charley daughter giving 48kgs.

Matthew Gemmell from Brownfield Farm in Dumfries sold 12 heifers to average almost £2600 and toped at £2950 for Brownfield Callen Britina she was bred from a VG89 dam with high production.

Seven outstanding heifers from the Logans at Holehouse Farm in Ayrshire averaged £2614 and topped at £2950 for Holehouise Sil Masie her dam had several lactations all over 12500kgs.

British Friesians topped at £2450 for a second lactation cow consigned by the Williamson family from Barrowmoor Farm near Appleby. This special consignment of seven cows averaged £2285.

Ayrshire cows topped at £2550 for a second lactation cow consigned by John Adamson from the Swaites Farm near Lanark.  She was giving 40kgs and was bred from a super Ayrshire dam that gave over 12500kgs as a six year old. 

There was a functional group of late lactation cows from Farming Partners who mange several farms in the Dumfries area.  These cows are Irish Friesian cross bred cows and were due again from May onwards to the Angus.  They topped at £1350 for a young cow with an attractive udder and averaged £923.

A quality group of in calf Holstein heifers were forward from several top farms with the top price of £2400 achieved on two occasions to average £1981 for 79 Holsteins.  Both of these top sellers were consigned by Tom Stewart from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso, with this special group of 48 heifers averaging £2000.

A powerful group of 20 Fleckvieh In Calf heifers due in February and March were consigned by the Sloan’s from Woodend Farm near Moffat.  They topped at £1500 to average £1308. 

The Stevenson family who have farmed at Kirminnoch Farm near Stranraer for several generations sold their last remaining heifers prior to them leaving the farm.  This has been a famous Ayrshire herd that has won many accolades over the years.  These well grown in calf heifers topped at £1800 for a daughter of Ardmore Jeepers Creepers, she was due at Christmas time to Royal Flush Sea King.

The sale finished with a tremendous offering of bulling heifers consigned by several top herds that averaged almost £1100.  They topped at £1400 twice for daughters of Pine-Tree Pursuit consigned by Brain Craig from Carneil Farm near Dunfermline.
