Kirkby Stephen OTM and Cast Cow Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Cast and OTM cattle. 70 Cast Cows and OTM’s were forward.

Topping the sale at £2678.33 was a 871kg pure British Blue Cow which made 307.5p/kg from Messrs Lawson, Buddle House, Richmond and was bought by Owain Llyr, Ruthin.

Topping at 324.5p/kg (£1969.72) was a 607kg Limousin cross cow from Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton which was also bought by Owain Llyr with this home also selling a 724kg Limousin cross cow to make £1900.50 (262.5p/kg).

Topping the Limousin cross cows at £2242.34 was a 764kg cow which made 293.5p/kg from Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras and was bought by D. Barker, Scarborough.

Messrs Harker, Grayrigg Hall, Kendal sold Pure Limousin Cows to £2164.50 for a 740kg Cow which made 292.5p/kg, with this home also selling a 780kg Limousin Cow to make £1914.90 (245.5p/kg).

Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Wharton sold a 735kg Limousin Cow to make 289.5p/kg (£2127.83).

Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn sold a 800kg Limousin cross Cow to make £2084 (260.5p/kg).

Dairy Cows sold to £1757.50 for a 740kg Friesian Cow which made 237.5p/kg from Messrs Beck, Townfoot, Longdale. This home also sold a 581kg Fleckvieh Steer to make £1507.70 (259.5p/kg).

Friesian OTM sold to 285.5p/kg for a 574kg Heifer which equated to £1638.77 from Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton.

Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby sold a 587kg Holstein Heifer to make 235.5p/kg (£1382.39).

Messrs Hastwell, The Buildings, Kaber sold a 784kg Holstein Cow to make £1517.04 (193.5p/kg).

Cast Bulls topped at £2335.26 for a 971kg British Blue which made 240.5p/kg from Messrs Harker, Grayrigg Hall.

They just keep getting dearer with an unbelievable all time record sale average of 215.54p/kg and £1420.14 for 70.  All breeds and weights sold!!

Six cows broke the £2000 mark with:-

 27 cows selling between £1600-£2678.

 27 cows sold between 230-324p/kg.

 37 Limousin cross Cows sold to average a fantastic 230.2p/kg and £1566.50.

 10 British Blue Cows sold to average 231.3p/kg and £1552.60.
