Kirby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale on Tuesday night, when 2,940 were forward consisting of 2,246 prime lambs and 623 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £215 was a pair of 67kg Texel lambs from Messrs Hastwell, The Buildings, Kirkby Stephen.

Topping at 494.7p/kg where a pen of sixteen 38kg Rouge cross lambs which made £188 from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick.

This home also sold a pen of fifteen 38kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £180 (437.7p/kg).

Messrs Richardson, Croft House, Ravenstonedale sold a 54kg Texel cross lamb to make £215.

Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport sold a pair of 44kg Beltex cross lambs to make £198 (450p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of four 38kg to make £171 (450p/kg), a pen of four 40kg at £176 (440p/kg) and a pen of seven 39kg to make £170 (435.9p/kg).

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby sold a pair of 38kg lambs to make £175 (460.5p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of ten 39kg to make £170 (435.9p/kg).

Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook sold a pair of 35kg Beltex cross lambs to make £162 (462.9p/kg).

Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate Farm, Brampton sold 52kg lambs to make £197, with this home also selling 50kg at £189, and a pen of 45kg at £181.

Messrs Somerville, Lansmere, Penrith sold a pair of 46kg lambs to make £191.

Messrs Armer, Hopeshill, Penrith sold 47kg Dutch Spotted lambs to make £180.

Suffolk cross lambs topped at £171 from Messrs Akrigg, Home Farm, Skipton.

Suffolk cross lambs also topped at 329.8p/kg for a pen of 47kg which made £155 from Michael Clegg, Yew Tree Farm, Poulton Le Fylde.

Mule lambs topped at £156 for a pen of 58kg from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon.

Swaledale lambs topped at £136 for a pen from Messrs Sutton, Nether House, Longsleddale.

Swaledales also topped at 282.1p/kg for a pen of twelve 39kg which made £110 from Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle.

A SQQ average of 326.3p/kg and an overall sale average of 316.53p/kg which includes over 700 mule and horned lambs which made up nearly a third of the sale!

45 pens and 168 lambs sold between £170 - £215.

91 pens and 305 lambs sold between £160 - £215.

32 pens and 157 lambs sold between 400-494p/kg.

Swaledale ewes sold to £116 for a pen of three from Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton with this home also selling another pen of nine to make £107.

Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill sold a pen of fifteen Swaledale ewes to make £109.

Cast Rams topped at £200 for Blue Faced Leicester from Messrs Bainbridge, Dousgill Farm, Richmond with this home also selling another pen of four Blue Faced Leicester rams to make £168.
