Kirkby Stephen Primestock Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,466 sheep were forward consisting of 2,793 prime lambs and 673 cast sheep.

Topping the sale was the overall champion pair and first placed heavy weighted Beltex cross lambs at the Christmas Show and sale, 51kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £400 and (784.3p/kg) from Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook and were purchased by Mr Alam of Lancashire Direct Halal Meat, Blackburn.

The Reserve Champion pair of lambs were the first placed light weight Beltex cross lambs at 41kg and selling to £230 (561p/kg) from Messrs Dinsdale, High Field, Morland.

Our judges for the evening were Mr James Blenkhorn of Yorkshire Halal Meats who judged the lowland lamb classes and the hill and Mule lambs were judged Aaron Kirby, Soulby both had a mammoth task of judging the 75 pens of lambs which would be one of the best show of lambs seen here at Kirkby Stephen and would be unrivalled anywhere in the country, a true credit to all who exhibited. Thanks to both our judges for their time and expertise.

Out with the show some fantastic prices were achieved with the best lambs been the dearest sold to date with prices for these types achieved here at Kirkby Stephen unrivalled anywhere in the country.

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold five pens of Rouge and Dutch Texel lambs over £5 per kilo, firstly for 39kg to make £211 (541p/kg), 42kg £205 (488.1p/kg), 38kg to make £200 (526.3p/kg), a pen of five 38kg making £196 (515p/kg)  and a pen of 5 38kg at £193 (507.9p/kg). The consignment of 20 from this home sold to average 38.3kg £193.25 (504.6p/kg)

Messrs Eddleston, Great Harwood sold 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £212 (530p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of eight 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £201(515.4p/kg) and a pen of nine 39kg lambs at £200 (512.8p/kg) another pen of six at 40kg making £194 (485p/kg) and a pen of eight 37kg to make £177 (478.4p/kg). The consignment of 43 lambs from this home sold to average 39.2kg £187.74 (479.4p/kg)

Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows sold a pair of 56kg Texel lambs making £242 (432.1p/kg) purchased by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby, with a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £210 (500p/kg) with another pen of 43kg making £208 (483.7p/kg) and a pair of 43kg Dutch Texel lambs to make £212 (493p/kg). The consignment of lambs from Middle Mown Meadows selling to average 47.2kg £245.33 and (520.1p/kg).

Messrs Elliot, Espland House, Penrith sold a pair of 53kg Texel lambs to make £242 (456.6p/kg), another pair of 51kg to make £205 and a pair of 42kg Beltex making £202 (481p/kg).

Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackenthorpe sold 37kg Beltex cross lambs to make £187 (505.4p/kg).

Messrs Todd, Crosby Hall, Penrith sold a pen of 4 40kg Beltex lambs to make £195 (487.5p/kg)

Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield sold two pens of Texel and Beltex cross lambs to weigh 39kg and selling for £188 (482.1p/kg).

Messrs Ireland, Heys Farm, Whalley sold two pens of 41kg Beltex lambs to make £196 (478p/kg) and 41kg Beltex to make £195 (475.6p/kg).

Mule lambs topped at £158 for the first placed pen of ten 55kg from Messrs Wharton, Keisley, Murton purchased by Field Fresh Trading.

Messrs Wills Fawcett Park, Dufton sold a pen of ten 54kg to make £155.

Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm, Warcop sold a pen of thirteen 49kg Mules to make £146 (298p/kg)

Messrs Iceton, High Birk Hatt, Barnard Castle sold a pen of forty-two 40kg Swaledales to make £115 (287.5p/kg)

Messrs Green, Hill Farm, Garrigill also sold a pen of ten 40kg Swaledale to make £115 with this home also selling a pen of fifteen 36kg £104 (288.9p/kg).

A phenomenal 11 pens and 40 lambs sold between 500-784p/kg

An unbelievable 77 pens and 378 lambs sold between 400-784p/kg

16 pens and 44 lambs sold between £200-£400

104 pens and 370 lambs sold between £170-£400

A country leading average was achieved with an SQQ of 350.1p/kg and an overall average of 333p/kg £148.67 per head, which includes over 500 Mule and horned lambs.

748 Beltex lambs sold to average £165.30 and 400p/kg

Kirkby Stephen once again takes pole position with leading averages and sale statistics which will be unrivalled anywhere in the country.

Topping the ewes was the first placed pen of five lowland sheep achieving £228 for Blue Texels from Ellen Elliot, Askrigg Hall, Penrith selling to Lancashire Direct Halal Meat.

The first prize pen of hill ewes when to a pen of five Swaledale which sold for £124 from Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton.

Messrs Harker, Murton Hall sold a pen of fifteen Swaledale ewes to make £120 with another pen of seventeen selling to £117 and sixteen selling to £115 all from Murton Hall.

Mule ewes topped at £167 from Messrs Lawson, Hundith house, Wigton
