On Wednesday 18th December Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. The last sale of 2024 saw 314 Store cattle forward at the number one store cattle ring and what a way to finish the year. Never have we ever sold cattle as dear!
A much smaller show were forward on the whole and saw an average of £1498.22 for heifers and £1621.89 for steers combining an overall average of £1561.23. Topping the days trading was a Beef Shorthorn steer from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton at £2200. Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna sold a British Blue steer to £2160 and two steers sold to £2080, firstly for a Limousin cross from Messrs Grieve, Whiteside, Hexham and secondly for a British Blue cross from Messrs Tiffin, Wham Head, Penrith. Aberdeen Angus to £1830 from Messrs Shaw, Crookdyke, Carlisle. Friesians to £1650 from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall.
Heifers sold to a days top of £2100 for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Gelt Hall, Brampton. Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna sold two Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1960.
Limousins to £1920 from Messrs Little, Maryland, Wigton. Charolais to £1900 from Messrs Stott, Shaw Head, Longtown. British Blues to £1820 from Messrs Dickinson, Low House, Wigton and finally Friesian heifers to £1660 from Messrs Blamire, Mid Whinnow, Carlisle.
