It was a Merry Christmas Sale for Berryholme
Milkers average £2575
The final Border & Lakeland of 2024 attracted a quality consignment of pedigree Holstein cows and heifers from across the north of England and Scotland. Highly sought after cow families such as Kandie, Flo, Roxy, Prudence, Gloriette and Mahala filled the catalogue with many of these pedigrees having numerous generations of Excellent and Very Good classified dams. Trade topped at 4,500gns for a special cow with the overall trade for milking cattle coming to £2575.
The sale was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and was judged by Border & Lakeland HYB member Jack Wilson owner of the Lightning Herd from Ormside Farm. His overall Champion went to Stowbeck Flo Gilly who was consigned by Len & Chris Wilson from Skirwith Hall Farms near Penrith and sold for 2,600gns to Mr Stewart from Preston. Gilly had an amazing udder and will complete eight generations of Excellent or Very Goods.
Reserve Champion was awarded to Berryholme Chamber Linda VG85 2yr, consigned by the Wright family from Lancashire. Linda displayed enormous potential to develop into an Excellent cow in the future and sold for the top price of 4500gns, going to David Coulthurst from near Preston.
The Berryholme herd sold another three animals to average over £3600 including Berryholme Luster Flo who sold for 3,800gns to David Coulthurst from near Preston. Flo is potentially the seventh generation of Excellent cows going back to two National Champions, Holmland Storm Flo EX94 and Cardsland Eclipse Flo EX96.
