Borderway Store Cattle & Weanling Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 948 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 325 Store Cattle, 233 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, and 390 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A much smaller entry of 325 store cattle forward with what turned out to be the dearest store trade seen for many a year and an overall sale average of £1202. It was a Limousin cross heifer that attained the top overall price per head of £1580 with vendors Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith leaving delighted with their trade. British Blues from Messrs Moffat, Kirtlebank, Gretna sold to £1435 and Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1380 from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Carlisle. Steers saw a day’s top of £1565 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle. Beef Shorthorns from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna to £1540. Limousins to £1450 for two bullocks from Messrs Faulder, Croft House, Cockermouth and for a pen of four from first time vendors Messrs Swan, Mid Locharwoods, Dumfries the same new vendors also sold top pen of three Simmental crosses to £1440. Aberdeen Angus crosses peaked at £1460 for weekly vendors Messrs Tamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Black and white dairy bred bullocks once again marvellous and peaked at £1088 for a pen of four Holstein Friesians from Messrs Dixon, Whinney Hill, Brampton and a Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Hodgson, Midtown Farm, Wigton to £980.

WEANED CATTLE: Weaned cattle once again jumped in trade and demand with all qualities very well sold. Topping the trade on the day was a tremendous Limousin bull from Messrs Foster, North View, Carlisle at £1340 with the following one making £1300. Big cattle as well as smaller grazers were all very well bid for with heifers topping at £1230 for a British Blue x from Messrs Davidson, Muirhouse, Lockerbie. Steers were very well sold with hard grazing bullocks selling with ease. Topping the steers was an Angus from Messrs Kirkwood, Mouswald Grange at £1100.
