Kirkby Stephen OTM & Cast Cows

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their sale of Cast & OTM Cattle on Monday.

Topping the sale at £1415.25 was a seven year old Limousin cow weighing 850kg (166.5p/kg) from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby and was bought by JA Jewitt, Spennymoor.

Dairy cows topped at £1356.81 for an eight year old Frisian which weighed 994kg and made 136.5p/kg from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange and was bought by Dovecote Park, Pontefract.

Topping at 178.5p/kg was a 578kg for a Holstein Friesian OTM heifer which totalled £1031.73 from Messrs Ewin, Black Syke, Sandford and was bought by A. Jarvis.

Beef Shorthorn cows topped at £1324.57 for an 886kg from Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm, Warcop purchased by JA Jewitt.

Also from this home was another shorthorn cow weighing 870kg making 150.5p/kg totalling £1309.35 being bought by Dovecote Park.

The trade witnessed could only be described as on fire with probably the dearest ever seen with a sale average of 138.9p/k and £1036.47 for all cattle forward.

Many more cows could easily be sold to massive advantage in the live-ring for all classes at the present time, with buyers leaving well short of their requirements.
