Border & Lakeland Club Holstein Bull Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

WARNELVIEW TOPS TWICE AT 6K

The 18th Annual Spring Bull sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club had an outstanding selection of 55 bulls on offer from the best cows and the best herds in the UK.  Bulls topped at 6,000gns on two occasions to average £3150 with 16 bulls selling for or more than £3000.  It is worth noting that although buyers had a very attractive line up to choose from, they were very selective resulting in 18 bulls passing through unsold.

The Show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and Coomara Veterinary Group and judged by local breeder Mr John Greenop from the Bridgedale herd.  He selected Warnelview Sergio as his overall Champion.  He was an Unix son from the Susette cow family, his dam is one of the widest cows in the Warnelview herd.  This super stylish bull sold for 5,800gns to Mr Mercer from Bolton in Lancashire.

For the second year in a row this sale was topped by a son of Warnelview Final Cut Nita.  This time Warnleview Nigel sold for 6,000gns to Mr Paterson from Ayrshire.  Nigel was a sired by Sandy-Valley Challenger he would have been the ideal bull to use to produce a true type model, winning his class earlier in the morning.  His dam is quickly becoming an iconic cow at Warnelview with almost 140 ton of milk produced so far and displays exceptional youthfulness and agility in her eighth lactation.

Warnelview Boulder sold for 6,000gns to Mr Smith from near Glasgow.  He was sired by Progenesis Granite and bred from one of the top butterfat and protein cows at Warnelview.  In her last lactation she gave 11370kgs at 5% butterfat and 3.52% protein.  Eleven other bulls from this home sold to average £4219.

British Friesian bulls topped at 4,400gns for Nerewater Index consigned by Richard Bell.  He was sired by Kirby Jupiter and bred from one of the stars in the Nerewater herd.  His dam produced over 11000kgs in her third lactation and classified Excellent 91.  This excellent young sire was purchased by Mr Meredith from Aberdeen.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 21st April and features 179 dairy cattle in Border & Lakeland  Club sale.  This sale features the first sale to disperse the Espland Holsten herd and the Holmeswood Ayrshire Production Sale.  Catalogues for this sale can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
