Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 1193 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 558 Store Cattle, 304 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 276 Calves, and 55 Holstein and British Friesian Bulls as part on the Border & Lakeland Club Bull Sale.

STORE CATTLE – Yet another fantastic catalogue entry of 558 strong store cattle were forward to the weekly sale. The sale can only be described as sublime from start to finish. Topping the enormous trade was top supporters from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith selling a fantastic British Blue cross heifer to £1660.  Limousin crosses from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan achieved £1560 and £1520. Messrs Beattie, Shield Green, Carlisle who also attained £1520. A year old Charolais heifer from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie peaked at £1400 and their run of yearlings averaged £1460.

Steers seen a days top of £1640 and £1610 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Hewertson, Lords Close, Maryport. Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle sold his top to £1630, British Blues peaked at £1600 from Messrs Watson, Howrigg Farm, Wigton. Charolais to £1560 from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie.

Dairy bred steers topped at £1420 for Montbeliarde from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna. Fleckviehs sold to £1390 from Messrs Addison, Greystone House, Penrith. British Friesians to £1275 for a pen of four from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle.

WEANED CATTLE: Another good run of 304 weaned cattle were forward at Borderway with trade still very sharp but a few faces missing around the ring.  Trade saw grazing cattle very dear once again but the quality cattle slightly less on the week.  Top price of the day was a Limousin bull from Messrs Graham, Heatherside topping the day at £1390 with the tremendous run of 4 bulls averaging up at £1318.  Messrs Burrow, Lodges farm,  also consigned a quality run of British Blue bulls aged  9 – 10 month averaging at £1240 with a top price of £1270 (x2).

Grazing bullocks and heifers also saw a strong trade with bullocks topping at £1065 for a Limousin x from Messrs Mattinson, Burthwaite.  Heifers selling to top at £1040 for the second consecutive week from Don Shepherd of Smith and Shepherd, Glebelands,  Appleby.
