SWAITES CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR IN STYLE
Holstein heifers average £2333

Happy New Year!!  The 2025 Borderway Monthly Dairy Sales kicked off in style with a quality consignment of freshly calved cows and heifers, dry cows and in-calf heifers.  Trade topped at £3,600, with the average for milking heifers coming to £2333 with only four milking heifers selling for less than £2000.  Buyers from England, Scotland and Wales were recorded on the buyers list from a total of thirteen counties.

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price being consigned by John Adamson from the Swaites Farm near Lanark.  Swaites Dewdrop was sired by Adrmore Jeepers Creepers and was 30 days fresh in her second giving 40kgs, selling for £3,600.  Two other special Ayrshire second calvers sold from this herd to average £2950.  

The Pacific herd owned by the Lyle family from Fife sold five heifers to average £2550 and topped the heifer trade at £2800 with Pacific Lugnut Beauty.  She was sired by Westcoast Lugnut and was giving close to 40kgs. 

An outstanding group of heifers from the Romanway herd owned by the Turnbull family averaged £2575 and topped at £2750 for Romanway Present.  She was the highest index heifer in the sale with a genomic index of PLI+£579.   

A quality group of in calf Holstein heifers were forward from several top farms with the top price of £2300 going to Edward Wilson from Petteril Hill Farm.  This was for a Westcoast Redcarpet daughter who was due in February to Ritmo sexed.
