On Wednesday 8th January, Harrison and Hetherington held its opening sale of weaned bulls and stirks in Ring 4. A total of 277 was forward and met a trade to set the year off in style. The overall sale average of £1064 was achieved with cattle being described as the dearest sale to date. A total of 92 bulls were forward with top price of £1900 going to R & A Cullen, Crosshill for a 24 month old British Blue. Limousin bulls topped at £1630 from Messrs Whitfield, Orton Rigg. Holsteins bulls topped at £960 for a single from W A Mounsey, High Rigg. Steers topped at £1800 for a Limousin steer from W Hughes, Dona Close with another to £1760. This fantastic run of 14 went on to average £1561.43. Messrs Fitzsimon, Tregellon sold some great British Blue heifers at 8 months old to £1090.
More needed to satisfy demand with buyers from all corners of Britain.
