On Wednesday 15th January, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store bulls and weaners. A total of 340 were forward and were met with the dearest averages on record with a total sale average of £1182.43 being achieved. A total of 100 bulls were forward with a monstrous trade being witnessed, a total section average of £1239.60. Topping the section went to an 18 month Limousin bull from T P Wigham, Hargill House selling to £2040. The highlight of the sale went to the annual consignment of bulls from Seth Armstrong, Terrace Farm, Cockermouth who sold 17 8/9 month old Limousin bulls to average £1695.14 topping at £1780. The same home sold 18 Limousin heifers again 8/9 month went on to average £1416.11. Steers and heifers were simply electric from start to finish. Steers averaged £1181.15 topping at £1840 for a Limousin from Neil Hardisty, How Hall. Heifers topped at £1610 from Seth Armstrong, Terrace Farm. Messrs Thornton, Rougholm Farm sold a superb run of 26 Limousins and Charolais cross 8/9 month old calves to average £1324.23 topping at £1700 for a single steer selling heifers to £1480. A reminder 85% of the sale forward today were dairy bred with buyers present from all corners of the UK.
