Borderway Store and Breeding Sheep Sale

Store Hoggs hit an astronomical trade with the highest averages so far. New vendors see prices realised with trade £10-15 sharper than other centres.

On Monday 20^th January, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep at Borderway Mart. First in lamb ewes of the season attracted a strong ringside of buyers. A big thank you to Messrs Rutter, Far Town for allowing us to conduct their dispersal sale of In-Lamb ewes.

STORE HOGGS: Stores were on fire today, topping the sale at £172 for a smart Beltex cross from JB & SM Mounsey, Ashfield. The same good home sold others to £154 for a pen of 11 and £136 for a pen of 7. A & D Bell, Mossband Hall sold a pen of 12 Beltex to £146. Sale highlight were a pen of 24 Suffolks selling for £145 from Messrs Coulthard, Fellside. A Lumsden sold a pen of 18 long keep, well bred Texel crosses to £137. Clive Bennison, Leigh Croft sold a pen of 8 Suffolks to £136. First time consignor, Richard Metcalfe, Home Farm, Penrith left delighted with his days trading, selling a pen of 4 Beltex to £135 and a pen of 9 to £134. JH Hedley, Denton Farm sold a pen of 26 Texels to £133. D & S Robinson, Hawksteel Farm sold a pen of 15 Texels to £133. Mules sold to £131 from D Brown, Temple House and to £130 from J & A Brown, Macqueston.

HL Whitfield & Son, Batey Shield sold a pen of 42 Mules to £127, also selling to £127 was a pen of 11 Mules from JH Richardson, Underbank. Blackfaced stores sold to £114 for a pen of 18 from J & A Brown, Macqueston. CJ Saunders Jnr sold a pen of 28 long keep Cheviots to £104. Herdwicks sold to £95 from C Spencer, Highfield.

The proof is in the pudding, with hill hoggs can be sold here on a weekly basis, to the vendors advantage.

BREEDING SHEEP: A big ringside of buyers sold away well, yet still looking a good buy compared to store hoggs.  The dispersal of in lamb Mule ewes from RS Rutter, Far Town topped at £215 for a pen of 17 2crops and £210 for a pen of 35 3crops. Toppin the sale at 3315 was an outstanding Texel cross from DG Farming, Dinwoodie green selling others to £300 and £290 twice. W & AH Hutcheon, Mauldcastle sold Texels to £260 and Suffolks to £220
