Kirkby Stephen OTM and Cast Cow Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their fortnightly Sale of cast and OTM cattle.

Topping the sale at £2759.63 was a ten year old cast Limousin bull which weighed 1115kg and made 247.5p/kg from Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras.

Topping at 299.5p/kg was a British Blue cross cow weighing 735kg which totalled £2201.33 also from Messrs Beckwith, New Hall. The consignment of eight cows sold to average 750kg 240.2p/kg and £1801.22.

Messrs Huch, Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick sold a Limousin cross cow weighing 682kg to make 284.5p/kg and £1940.29 with this home also selling a 730kg Limousin cross cow to make 264.5p/kg and £1930.85.

The dairy section topped at £1676.22 for a 641kg Friesian heifer which made 261.5p/kg from Messrs Atkinson, Waitby Farm, Kirkby Stephen, with this same home also selling Black & White to 269.5p/kg for a 590kg totalling £1590.05.

Limousin cross cows averaged a fantastic 230.7p/kg.

An overall sale average of 220.2p/kg and £1507.75 was achieved for all breeds and weights sold.

All classes was the dearest seen so far.

The next sale of cast cows at Kirkby Stephen will be on Monday 3^rd February.
