PRIME BULLS:
A small entry of only 76 prime bulls forward, selling once again dearer on the week for a plainer consignment of cattle evident. Topping the sale overall was a 1038kg British Blue from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanarkshire, achieving a days top of £2690.09 to Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Cadzow, Duncanhill, Edinburgh, sold the next best at £2820.79 for 826kg. Limousins sold to a top of £3580.62 for 996kg from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie, and to £3347.98 for Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith, with a 916kg pure bred. Simmentals were up to £2666.84 for a 968kg from Messrs Burgess, High Keenly Fell, Hexham, and Messrs Goldie, Newbie Mains, Annan sold one to £2611.29 for 902kgs. Aberdeen Angus topped at £2400.58 for 733kg from Messrs Hird, Westray, Cockermouth, and Charolais crosses to £2319.90 for 660kg from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle. Top Overall price per kilo came from RVCM Agri, Airyolland Farm, Newton Stewart with a 699kg Limousin cross to 379.50ppk, Messrs Thomson, Townfoot, sold next best at 375.50 for 821kgs.
Dairy bulls sold to a top of £1900.95 for a 690kg Friesian from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie. Holstein Friesians to £1754.96 for 661kgs from Messrs Wilson, South View, Penrith and finally a top price per kilo of 287.50 went to 558kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Jackson, Skelton, Wood End, Penrith and Friesians sold to 285.50p for 503kg from Messrs Preston, Wed Holme House, Wigton.

PRIME CATTLE:
A good entry once again of 71 Prime Steers and Heifers forward seeing trade steam on for all classes. Hitting new heights today of £2766.24 from Messrs Bell, Hoddamtown, Lockerbie, was their 761kg Limousin cross steer, followed closely by Messrs Wilson, Kirkmabreck, Newton Stewart, at £2745.60 for 768kg. The 25 Limousin cross steers forward averaged £2364.13. Charolais crosses for Kirkmabreck, Newton Stewart at £2735.98 for 884kg to Mr Eric Hall and 858kgs to £2706.99. Messrs Wilsons run of 8 steers averaged £2679.62 for 820kg, British Blue crosses to £2682.75 for 730kgs from The Lake at 367.50ppk, the same vendors also sold the two top Limousin crosses at 365.50p for 733kg and 741kg.
Heifers peaked at £2453.60 for a 675kg Limousin cross from Messrs Neill, Upper Tinwald, Dumfries, amd £2430.82 for 716kg from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle, purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle, top price per lots and top overall came from Messrs Wilson, Pettrill Hill Carlisle, selling 545kg to 371.50ppk, the same vendors also sold the next best at 367.50ppk for 562kgs.

PRIME LAMBS :On Monday 20th Jan 2025 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which attracted over 5000 head, another massive show was witnessed in Borderway, with vendors week on week realising the value of their stock in a progressive livestock market , over 1000 ewes penned sold to a fabulous trade throughout , reported by buyers as been pounds dearer than returns seen in other outlets mid week onwards last week, indeed, in comparison to last year ewes are £47.80 up on average for the week, Messrs Leonard, Pettigo made a triumphant return to Carlisle selling pure texel ewes to £340 and averaging £184 all in for a mix of heavy and light ewes, plenty of ewes passed £180 with ease and all continentals and Suffolks topped at over £200, light ewes were electric, swales in particular sold well to a top of £140 for a pen of ewes from Mr John Smith-Jackson, Haltwhistle, we can handle ewes in numbers with all major outlets operating strongly in Borderway. Close on 4000 hoggs this week with trade nationally taking a slight blip , don’t be too down hearted though, this trade is still £19.78 ahead of last years rates , several pens over £200 and top export still hitting 505p with Rod Scott, West Micklethwaite, Wigton making his presence felt again topping the sale at £220 and also selling 40kg lambs to 505p and £202 heavies sold to £208 for a pen of Suffolk’s from Messrs Chalmers, Outer Woodhead, Canonbie
