Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on when 3,017 sheep were forward consisting of 2,505 hoggs and 512 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £238 was a 65 kilo Beltex cross hogg from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle which was bought Mr Alam of Lancashire Direct Halal Meat, Blackburn. 

Topping at 528.2p per kilo was a pen of nine 39 kilo Beltex cross hoggs which sold for £206 from Messrs Simpson, High Scale Farm, Wigglesworth, with this home also selling a pen of nine 43 kilo at £208 (483.7p per kilo), nine 41 kilo at £206 (502.4p per kilo), a pen of ten 41 kilo for 3205 (500p per kilo), a pen of thirteen 41 kilo at £201 (490.2p per kilo), seven 37 kilo to make £193 (521.6p per kilo). 

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold 53 kilo hoggs to make £216, with a pen of 41 kilo making 202 (492.7p per kilo) from this home.

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan sold a pen of 40 kilo Beltex cross hoggs to make £206 (515p per kilo) with another of fourteen 38 kilo making £195.50 (514.4p per kilo). 

Messrs Dent, Elm House, Bolton sold 40 kilo to £204 (510p per kilo) with a pen of ten 40 kilo making £197 (492.5p per kilo) and a pen of seven 40 kilo making £193.50 (483.8p per kilo) also from this home. 

Messrs Longstaff, Ascot House, Murton sold a pen of 40 kilo to make £192.50 (481.3p per kilo). 

Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold a pen of five 46 kilo hoggs to make £206.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to 340.8p per kilo for a pen of 49 kilo which made £167 from Messrs Pullan, Manor House Farm, Richmond. 

Mule hoggs sold to £163 from Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap. 

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth sold 53 kilo Mules to make £160, with another pen of eighteen 46 kilo Mules making £144.50 (314.1p per kilo) from this home. 

Mules also sold to 315.6p per kilo for a pen of 45 kilo making £142 from Messrs Deighton, Orchard Farm, Bleatarn. 

The Hill bred show was held which was kindly sponsored by the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association and Aldersons Garage, Nateby, our judge Mr G Slack, Hilton awarded the Champion pen of ten hill hoggs to the first Prize pen of Swaledales from Messrs Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, Murton which weighed 47 kilos and went on to sell for £144 (306.4p per kilo).

Swaledale ewes topped at £131 from Messrs Pattinson, Pinfold House, Bishop Auckland.

Messrs Luck, Milestone House, Barnard Castle sold a pen of five Swaledale ewes to make £121.
