On Wednesday 22nd January, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store bulls and weaners.
The largest show seen this year with 403 forward with one of the largest shows of 144 bulls included. Bulls went on to average £1135.59 with bulls being described as dearer still in comparison to last week’s mammoth show.
Topping the sale was PJ & E Henshall, Lockerbie who sold a pair of pure 9 month old Limousins to £1880. A great run of 22 Shorthorn bulls were forward from Robert Muirhead, Auldtown topping at £1190 for a 9 month old bulls. Messrs Burrows, Low Row sold 10 7/8 month old British Blue bulls to average £1531 topping at £1860. A show of 250 stirks were forward and met very similar trade last week however top end cattle were in short supply resulting in a lesser average on the week of £1075.83, however cattle still remained in high demand.
Topping the sale was a Danish Red heifer selling for £1650 from DM & J Rome, Fauldie whose run of 5 went on to average £1478. Steers topped at £1610 for some 10 month old steers. This run of 6 averaged £1546.67. FDT Farms, Bailey Town sold a wonderful run of 6/8 month old British Blue cross heifers and steers to £990 for a pen of 6.
Many more are needed on a weekly basis with a large entry for next week is expected.
