On Wednesday 29th January Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. A new record average was set today whereby our trade for 389 store cattle levelled our at £1802.64 for an 80% dairy bred sale of cattle. Todays trade left customers and competitors blushing as to how much Borderway is leading this cattle trade forward week in week out. Topping the sale overall was two outstanding Limousin cross steers from Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle selling at £2480 who’s run of 6 steers averaged a £2410. Roadhead customers Messrs Telfer, High Park Foot sold best Charolais crosses to £2380 followed by £2360 from Messrs Haston, Swordwellrigg, Annan. Blue crosses to £2300 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth. Aberdeen Angus to £2240 for a pair from Messrs Holiday, Newbampton, Wigton. Blondes to £2260 from Messrs Robson, Merryshields, Newcastle and finally Simmental steers to £2180 from Messrs Paisley, Sandlands Farm, Wigton.
Heifers saw a top call of £2300 from Messrs Twentyman Osborne Farm, Wigton for a Limousin cross heifer, this run averaged £2250. Messrs Todd, Wyndham House, Wigton peaked at £2200 and £2050 for their run of exceptionally well bred cattle. Charolais to £2120 from Messrs Faulder, Thistledown, Carlilse and Aberdeen Angus to £1980 three times firstly by Sheddock Farm, Newton Stewart and twice by Messrs Bowe, Longdales, Carlisle
Dairy bred cattle topped at £1800 for a Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Miller, Tarn Lodge, Brampton. Montbelairde steers to £1780 from Messrs Haston, Swordwell Rigg, Annan. Fleckvieh to £1700 from Messrs Holliday, Town Foot, Penrith and finally Holstein Friesian to £1660 from Messrs Tiffen, Wham Head, Penrith.
