Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their February show and sale of store cattle, when a catalogue entry of 410 cattle were on offer.
Topping the sale at £2515 was a Limousin Heifer from Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, Stainmore selling to Messrs Knight, Peterborough.
Messrs Anderson, The Springs, Leyburn sold 13 month old British Blue heifer to make £2500 selling to Messrs Lee, Hexham.
Messrs Hodgson, Park House Farm, Ravenstonedale sold a 13 month old British Blue cross heifer to make £2450 to Messrs Walton, Hexham.
Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Soulby sold a Limousin cross heifer to make £2355 and £2315 both purchased by Taylors Farm Shop, Latham with another Limousin heifer from this home selling for £2255 and British blue cross heifer at £2200.
Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill sold Limousin heifer to £2315 purchased by Messrs knight, Peterborough.
Messrs Pickles, Far Gearstones sold three seventeen month old Limousin cross heifers to make £2300, with another selling for £2245.
Messrs Birbeck, High Stennerskeugh sold 15 month old Limousin heifer to make £2235.
Our pre sale show was judged by west Cumbrian cattle enthusiast James Crichton who awarded the champion rosette to the first prize steer which was a 13 month old Limousin cross which sold £2280 from Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick and was purchased Messrs Robshaw, Tadcaster.
The reserve championship was awarded to a 12 month old British Blue cross Steer from Messrs Lawson, Buddle House, Richmond selling to £2115 and purchased by Messrs Amos, Great Bowden.
This home also sold 12 month British Blue steers to £2005, with 10 month old British Blue steers making £1965, £1955, £1935.
Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill sold Limousin cross steers £2275 with this home also selling 14 month old British Blue steers to £1975 and 12 month Limousin steers to £1935.
Messrs Benson, Gamswell Farm, Ulverston sold Limousin steers £2245.
Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Kirkby Stephen sold 13 month old British Blue steers to make £2235.
Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras sold 14 month old Limousin steers to £2235.
Messrs Hodgson Park House Farm, Ravenstonedale sold British Blue steers to £2115.
Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, Stainmore sold Limousin steers to £2100.
For an entry of predominantly 8-12 month old cattle steers averaged £1644.66 (up £156.58 on the year) and heifers average £1552.14 (up £128.39 on the year)
All classes of youngers cattle were the trade of the day with smart steers and heifers 8-10 month regularly selling between £1700-£2000 with plenty of 8-12mth old commercial types selling between £1300-£1500.
