Borderway Store Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 5^th February Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of 400 store cattle with numbers remain tight, couple that with prime returns and you get a perfect storm, today the average rose again by £50 from last week’s record to level at £1852.45.  The headline acts all soaring into the £2500 plus bracket but, the £1700-1800 cattle simply have to be seen to be believed, and even then, you are probably questioning your hearing.  Leading the sale today at £2750 was a Charolais x Bullock from Messrs Moffat, Stone House, Gretna who sold 3 to average £2686.67.  Heifers sold  to £2580 for a cracker from Alan Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton who sold 3 to average £2526.67. Tom and Julia Airey, New Grange sold a lovely run of pure Limousin heifers on the mid 500kg bracket to average £2410 which would equate to around 440p per kilo. 21 vendors averaged over £2000 with 104 or 26.26% of the sale selling between £2000 and £2750.
