CARNDUFF FLASH GIRL IS A TURN ON AT BORDERWAY

Holstein heifers average £2551

The February Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had attracted over 250 dairy cattle from across Scotland and the North of England from many of the region’s leading dairy farms.  Trade topped at £3,300 with ten cows and heifers selling for £3000 or more, Holstein heifers in milk averaged £2551.  
 

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price being consigned by the Bryson family from Dykehead Farm, Lesmahagow.  They sold Carnduff Secretariat Flash Girl for £3,300, she was freshly calved in her third lactation and was giving 50kgs and just classified Excellent prior to the sale. 

Canrduff Sizzler Girl sold for £3,150 from the same home, sired by Denovo Sizzler and bred from an Excellent dam that had produced almost 14000kgs in her third lactation.  Twelve animals from this home sold in total with four selling for £3000 to average £2804.

Topping the heifer trade at £3,200 was Errolston Foresight Eclipse who was consigned by the Davidson family who farm near Gretna.  This perfectly structured heifer was sired by Errolston Foresight and bred from a milky dam sired by Frazz.  The Errolston herd sold a couple of milking cows for £3000 sired by Windy-Knoll-View Pep Red.

The Baxter family from Park House Farm near Longtown were first time consignors in this month’s sale and topped at £3000 for a super uddered heifer sired by HET Ken Gray.  She was producing 42kgs and had a PLI+£417.  This impressive group of cows and heifers averaged £2733. 

Belahvalley Helix Dainty sold for £3000 and was consigned by the Hastwells’ from The Buildings Farm near Kirby Stephen.  She was bred from a VG88 dam with production records over 15000kgs.

Wayne Inman from Witherslack Farm near Grange Over Sands sold a powerful third lactation cow for £3000.  She was giving almost 50kgs and was sired by Stantons Applicable.

The Kirtlevale herd owned by the Livingston family sold 7 heifers to average £2700 and topped at £3000 for Kirtlevale Renegade Grace.  She was giving almost 40kgs and was bred from an Excellent cow sired by Rager Red. 

The Shanks family from Queenscairn Farm near Kelso sold 30 British Friesian cows and heifers from their high yielding organic herd to average almost £2400 and topped at £2700 for Queenscairn Patriot Rosette.  She was a recently calved heifer sired by Carrickshock GTW and was giving 27kgs and was bred from a dam that gave over 11000kgs as a four year old. 

There was a fantastic group of 18 Jersey cows and heifers from Jock Rome, Ingleston Farm near Dumfries.  They topped at £1700 on three occasions to average £1568.  The three heifers to sell for £1700 were all sired by Ahlem Rockwell and all were bred from dams with high milk yields with over 11% solids. 

John Adamson from the Swaites Farm near Lanark topped the Ayrshire trade with Swaites Beauty who was sired by Cuthill Towers Rader and sold for £2400. 

A quality group of 39 in calf Holstein heifers were forward from several top farms with a top price of £2450 to average £2188.  The top price heifer was consigned by Edward Wilson from Petteril Hill Farm she was sired by R2D2 and was due in March to Hernstreit sexed.  This fine group of in calf heifers averaged £2368.
