The annual North Country Cheviot in lamb show and sale held at Lockerbie Market on Saturday saw a massive ringside of buyers from Orkney to Dorset resulting in quality sheep easily finding new homes.
Top price of the day came from the first prize Park Ewe and Overall Park Champion from J Thomson, The Kelso flock. A 3-crop ewe by Wester Widcat, sold carrying triplets to Symington Auld Lang Syne. She sold to Pam Tapson’s ‘Pam’s Pack’ flock, Perthshire for £4000.
The Kelso flock also sold the next best at £2600, this time a 2-crop ewe again a Wester Wildcat daughter, who won second prize in the show, sold carrying triplets again to Symington Auld Lang Syne. She sold to Messrs Harrison, Holmrook, Cumbria.
The next best price of £2200 was achieved twice, firstly by Bowmont Farming, Attonburn flock for the third prize Hill gimmer, who sold carrying a single to Badnaloch Xtra to Messrs Ellis, Clwyd.
Also selling to £2200 was the top price from the Harestone production, An Allanshaws Bullseye gimmer carrying a pair to Bardnaclavan Cooper, she travels back up to Aberdeenshire to Stewart Sleigh’s Fyvie flock.
New breeder George Wilkinson, Arkleby purchased a gimmer from the Kelso flock for £2000, she sold carrying twins to Symington Auld Lang Syne.
Messrs Johnstone, Ballindalloch purchased a 3 crop Park ewe from the Kelso flock for £1900, She sold carrying a pair to Symington Auld Lang Syne.
Topping the hogg section was the first prize Park hogg consigned by Jennifer Cowan, Hightae with her pen leader selling to £1800. She was sired by Carruthers Dancing Brave and sold to MacGill and Jones, Argyll.
