On Saturday 8th February Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual spring sale of Poultry, Waterfowl, Hatching Eggs and Equipment.
A catalogued entry of 1151 lots of poultry and waterfowl, hatching eggs and equipment was presented to a crowd of buyers from all parts of the United Kingdom resulted in a 95.5% clearance rate.
Call Ducks: Topping the sale at £800 was a pair of White Call Ducks from Mr Stuart Kay. Followed by pairs of White Calls selling for £650, £500, £450 and £420 all from Mr Mark Hewertson.
Geese: A pair of Embden Geese sold for £300 from R Hedges. The same home also sold a pair of African Brown Geese for £280.
Guinea Fowl: D page sold a pen of 4 to £110, followed by a pen of 3 to £90.
True Bantams: True Bantams sold to a top of £460 for a Trio of white Pekins from Mr R Swale. Mr S Kay sold a pair of Black Pekins to £450. Two White Pekin pullets from R Swale sold for £380 and £340.
Bantams: A trio of Silkie Bantams from M Goodwin sold to £450. M Hewertson sold a Trio of white Wyandottes for £380.
Large Fowl: This section topped at £450 for a trio of Rhode Island Red from A Hardgreaves. A trio Speckled Sussex sold to £400 from A Smyth. A trio of Welsummers hatched in 2024 sold to £400 from M Hewertson. Mr I Grahm sold a trio of Silver Spangled Hamburghs hatched in 2024 for £400. M Rangley sold a pair of Black Orpingtons to £350.
Caged Birds: A small entry of 28 caged birds were forward and topped at £90 for a cage of Quails from S Trafford. Other Quails from N Hill sold for £75.
Equipment: A Brinsea Cabinet Incubator and Humidity Pump sold for £410 from Messrs Seed. Another Brinsea Incubator and Humidity pump from the same home sold for £240.
Hatching Eggs: A dozen Large Fowl Welsummer from D Nesbit sold to £180 and £170.
