PRIME BULLS: A much larger show of 92 Prime bulls forward seeing all classes meeting an outstanding trade throughout. Less top end quality and weighted bulls forward on the whole but the best of the day went to a 1010kg Charolais from Messrs McCornick, Barnbackle, Dumfries receiving a top of £3651.15. Top Limousin was from Messrs Callion, Bolfornaught Farm, Stirling weighing 839kgs and selling to £3225.96. Messrs Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Stirling sold 828kgs to £3191.94. British Blue crosses to £3055.77 for 827kgs from Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Penrith. Beef Shorthorn to £2817.36 for 1008kg from Messrs Clark, Lee Meadow, Carluke and Simmentals to £2807.48 for 913kgs from Messrs Ryder, Holme House, Carlisle. Top overall pence per kilo of 397.5p went to a 761kg Limousin from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle and to 737kgs from another Limousin from Messrs Callion Bolfornaught. Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle sold a 606kg Saler cross to 391.5p and a 599kg Simmental cross to 389.5p.
Dairy bred bulls set a new record with a 770kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie selling to £2444.75, the same home also sold another to £2321.33 for 855kg. Fleckviehs to £2288.44 for 616kgs from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, and Friesians to £2047.85 for 645kg from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown. Top price per kilo of 371.5p went to Beck House Fleckvieh and 317.5p was achieved twice from Messrs Clarks 770kg Holstein Friesian and Messrs Grahams 645kg Friesian.

PRIME CATTLE: A massive show of 102 prime steers and heifers were forward at Borderway’s weekly sale whereby an excellent mixed quality of cattle were on offer with something for everyone. Records were smashed today with the first steer breaking the £3000 bracket. This was an 800kg Limousin cross from Messrs Craik, Waterside Farm, Castle Douglas attaining £3020. Messrs Wilson, Kirkmabreck, Newton Stewart sold the next best Limousin at £2958.69 for 823kg selling to Mr Eric Hall. Messrs Wilson sold the top priced Charolais cross to £2963.68 for 829kgs and 810kgs making £2944.35. British Blues topped at £2797.75 for 722kgs from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton and the same home also sold 716kg, to £2702.90 selling to Morgan Helliwell and A & D Meats.
Top pence per kilo steer came from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks with 677kg achieving 297.5ppk.
Heifers sold to a massive £2917.04 for a 781kg, Limousin cross from DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton. Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill, Carlisle sold the next best Limousin to £2767.28 for 753kgs to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Charolais to £2910.08 for 805kg from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont and purchased by Mr Eric Hall. British Blue crosses to £2456.51 for a 33 month old 691kg from Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill, Hawick and a 655kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Messrs Twentyman, Osbourne Farm, Wigton sold to £2433.33 again from Mr Eric Hall.
Top overall pence per kilo of the day went to a 585kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle achieving 419.5ppk and Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna selling another to 403.5ppk for 595kgs both purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.

On Monday 10th Feb 2025 H&H held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw a fantastic entry of 4739 head forward for sale,
3725 prime hoggs penned this week from all areas met a brisk trade but a plainer show returned an average of 342p for all weights and grades topping the sale at £240 was a pen of magnificent hoggs from Ms Fisher Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas who also topped per kilo with another pen at 571p heavies sold to £232 for 63kg hoggs from Messrs Raine Randalholme with 26 pens between £200 and £240 Scotch Mule hoggs sold to £213 for a pen of heavies from Messrs Hamilton kirkton of Crawford Abington with Roth of England types to £189 from Messs Bowman Brampton Fell, Brampton Suffolks sold to £211 from James Delargy, Armoy with hill types to £170 on two occasions from fisher farming , Longtown and Jamie Walker, High Mindork Newton Stewart , Messrs Fisher also topped the Blackie hoggs at £164.

CAST EWES: 1014 cast ewes were penned this week with Borderway being the established ewe centre of choice for local farmers , on the whole a far plainer show was forward with a big percentage of the sale being leaner hill bred ewes which affected averages, however trade was as hot as last week, best ewes sold to £350 for texels from Gary Bell , Lockerbie who sold 21 pure type ewes to average £283 a head , Steph Dick, Westerton Farm, Stirling sold some great pure bred ewes to £300 for Blue Texels and also topped the Suffolks at £245 for cross ewes, mule types sold to £188 for Cheviot Mules from Messrs Hall, Lanerton , Brampton with hill types to £175 for Swales from Ms Gill , Newlands, Wigton, pure Leicesters sold to £260 for tups from Messrs Raine Randalholme Alston and to £238 for ewes from Messrs Ridley, Woodhall, Wigton.
