On Wednesday 12th February Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. Yet another good show of 480 strong store cattle forward with a great mixture of dairy and suckler bred cattle of all shapes and sizes, seeing a boost in trade once again for the sixth week running, cattle would see their dearest trade ever witnessed.
Top overall was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Harrington, Grange Grassing, Wigton who received £2700. 90 cattle sold in excess of £2000. Aberdeen Angus sold to £2540 from Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna and £2500 from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown. The 80 Limousin cross steers averaged a staggering £2057. Blonde crosses from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle sold to £2480 and British Blues to £2380 from Messrs Coates, Beckhall, Canonbie.
Heifers sold to a top of £2520 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Ross, Birchwood, Dumfries and the next best came from Wigton farmers Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, at £2510. Aberdeen Angus to £2360 from Campingholm, Gretna. British Blues to £2240 from Messrs Holliday, Newbampton, Wigton. Simmentals to £2100 from Messrs Robley, Nelson Hill, Carlisle and Charolais to the same price from Messrs Holliday, Newbampton, Wigton.
Dairy bred stock sold to a top of £2380 for a Montbelairde steer. Fleckviehs to £2260 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth. Holstein Friesians to £1880 from Millantae Farms, Lockerbie, Heifers sold to £1730 for numerous Swedish Reds, Montbelairdes and Danish Reds from Messrs Dent Bridge End, Penrith.
