Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry 1228 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 545 Store Cattle, 311 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 367 Calves.

STORE CATTLE –  Yet another good entry of 550 forward store cattle at Borderway with a fantastic trade seen throughout for a far plainer show of cattle on offer.  Peter and Sophie Donger of Seawell Grounds, Towchester made this worthwhile journey north to receive a fruitful trade topping the sale at £1640 for a Charolais cross Saler steer, others for this same good home sold up to £1570.  Limousin steers from Messrs Batey, High Knells Farm, Carlisle sold to a top of £1620 and £1600.  Messrs Slack, Newby Farm, Carlisle also sold a Limousin steer to equal at £1600 as did Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan.  Regular vendors Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth sold their days top of £1540 for an Aberdeen Angus cross.  Mike Brough, How Gill, Wigton sold the top British Blue cross to £1480.  In the heifer section a day’s top of £1480 was attained by Messrs Baxter, Eden Bank, Carlisle who sold their Limousin cross.  Messrs Scott, Bolton Hall, Wigton sold another to £1430 and Messrs Beattie, Woodfield sold a further two to £1400.  Charolais again from the Donger family of Seawell Grounds saw a top of £1400 for a pair and £1375 for another. Dairy bred bullocks as what seems the normal now were exceptionally well sold with Holstein Friesians selling to £1335 for a pen of 3 fromM Watson, Howrigg Farm, Wigton and £1410 for a Montbelairde from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.  All classes are still required on a weekly basis, please advise entries to main office or any of our Auctioneers by Friday mid morning.

WEANED CATTLE: Younger bulls today sold well but other poorer types were harder to cash.  Grazing cattle were keenly bid for although smaller cattle were more evident.  Topping the whole sale was a British Blue cross bull from Messrs Mallinson, The Hill, Burgh by Sands selling to £1300.  Limousin heifers from Messrs Brown, Housenrigg sold to £1190.  Steers sold to £1090 for Charolais from Messrs Langcake, Isel Old Park,  Cockermouth and also a Saler Bullock from Messrs Strick, Overby House, Wigton.
