Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on when 4,069 Sheep were forward consisting of 3,322 prime hoggs and 747 Cast Sheep. 

Topping the sale at £242 where a pair of 73kg Texel hoggs from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington.

This home also sold a pen of five 72kg Texel cross hoggs to make £230.

JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a 45kg Beltex cross hogg to make £225, with 49kg making £220, a pen of five 43kg making £215, a pen of six 43kg at £214, a pen of five 39kg at £210 (538.5p/kg) a pen of seven 41kg at £210 (512.2p/kg) and a pen of five 41kg at £209 (509.8p/kg).

The consignment of 47 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 41.6p/kg, £209.50 and 503.6p/kg.

Topping at 539.5p/kg was a 38kg Beltex cross hogg which made £205 from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport.

This home also sold a pen of five 38kg at £195 (513.2p/kg). A pen of ten 39kg at £197 (505.1p/kg) and a pen of five 37kg at £192 (518.9p/kg).

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of fourteen 40kg to make £210 (525p/kg) with a pen of nine 38kg making £199 (523.7p/kg).

Messrs Powley, Low Northsceugh, Carlisle sold a pen of fifteen 41kg to make £210.50 (513.4p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold a pen of fifteen 39kg to make £203 (520.5p/kg), with a pen of fifteen 39kg making £200 (512.8p/kg), with another pen of twenty 39kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs to make £200 (512.8p/kg).

Messrs Hodgson, Park House Farm, Ravenstonedale sold heavy Texel cross hoggs to make £230.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £202 for a pen of fifteen from Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife.

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £182 for a pen of 56kg from Messrs Kiernan, Vale Farm, Preston. This home also topped at 368.6p/kg for a pen of twenty five 43kg Hill Cheviot hoggs which made £158.50.

Mule hoggs sold to £165 for a pen of twenty one 58kg from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton.

Hayllar Farms, Helbeck Grange sold a pen of twenty four 46kg Mules to make £155.50 (338p/kg) with another pen of twenty two 47kg Mules making £157 (334p/kg) also from this home.

Blackfaced Hoggs sold to 356.1p/kg for a pen of thirty 41kg which made £146 from Messrs Kiernan, Vale Farm.

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall sold a pen of twenty nine 44kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £150.

Swaledale hoggs sold to £157 for a pen of 50kg from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, Penrith.

Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Penrith sold 42kg Swaledale Hoggs to make £140 (333.3p/kg).

Once again an SQQ average of 384.8p/kg and an overall average of 360p/kg and £163.76 for 3322 hoggs which includes over 800 Horned & Mule lambs.

Messrs Teward sold two pens of Texel ewes to make £230.

Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle sold two pens of Beltex cross ewes to make £295.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon and Messrs Brown, Mount Pleasant Farm, Barnard Castle sold Beltex ewes to £290.

Messrs Astley, Morpeth sold a pen of eleven Texel ewes to make £245 with another pen of eleven making £240.

The consignment of 92 Texel, Suffolk cross, Hill Cheviot and Mule ewes sold to average £226.25 from this home.

Suffolk cross ewes sold to £265 twice for a pair from Messrs Akrigg, Home Farm, Skipton and also from Smith & Shepard, Knock.

Mule ewes topped at £195 for a pen of nine from Messrs Astley, Morpeth.

Swaledale ewes topped at £140 from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle.

Heavy ewes of any breed where a flying trade being one of the dearest seen for some time with plenty required on a weekly basis!
