On Wednesday 26th February, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store bulls and weaners in Borderway. On the whole one of the dearest trades described anywhere. A total sale average of £1149.18 was achieved with a much plainer show being forward with a distinct shortage of Beef Bred cattle. The sale included 115 bulls to average £1090.43 with a large proportion of the sale being dairy or younger bulls. The sale topped at £2520 for a 9 month old pedigree Angus bull from JF & JK Hayward, Colwell who sold a total of 4 bulls to average £2217.50. Messrs Reid, Fulton sold a wonderful run of 18 10/12 month old Dairy bred Angus bulls to average £1617.78. Messrs Dent, Bridge End sold 20 Dairy cross bulls to average £809.50 topping at £1240 for a Danish Red.
Steers went on to average £1232.11 with top price going to Uskstar Limited, How Mill who sold an 18 month old British Blue steer to £2280 selling 4 to average £1790. Stuart Whitfield, Batey Shield sold a run of 8 10/11 month old Limousin x steers to average £1507.50 topping at £1760. Messrs Livingston, Far Hills sold 6 Saler steers to average £1323.33 topping at £1400 for a pair. Heifers averaged £1760 from Stuart Whitfield, Batey Shield and average £1114.41. Alan Dent, Beamwham sold 7 8/9 month old Limousin heifers to average £1472.86. Topping at £1510 for a pen of 5. Dan Hutton, Church View sold 9 British Blue heifers to average £1370 topping at £1470 for a pen of 4.
