Kirkby Stephen May Show & Sale of Steers

Harrison & Hetherington held their May Show & Sale of store steers when an entry of 531 were on offer.

Topping the sale at £1750 was the overall champion, a 7 month old steer consigned by Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie which was successfully purchased by our judge Mr A Dickinson, Park Gate Farm, Derbyshire.

Taking the overall reserve championship was another 7 month old Limousin cross which sold for £1235 from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Wharton.

Limousin cross steers sold to £1635 on two separate occasions and by two different consignors, firstly for a 13 month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, then also making £1635 was another 13 month old Limousin cross steer consigned by Messrs Akrigg, Manor Farm, Skipton, who also sold another 13 month old Limousin steer to make £1615.

The consignment of twelve 13-14 month old Limousin x steers from Terrys Farm sold to average a whopping £1531.25.

An overall steer average of £1127.26 was a massive £203.14 up on the year.

All classes and ages of steers were in demand with some types selling to a dearest trade ever seen.

Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby sold three 11 month old Limousin cross steers to make £1425 twice and £1400, with 10 month old Limousin cross steers selling for £1405, £1400 and £1385.

Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, sold three 6 month old Limousin and British Blue cross steers to make £1235 and £1200 twice.

Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon sold 9 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1345 and £1265.
