Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Annual Kirkby Classic Prize sale of potential show and store cattle, when a catalogue entry of 496 cattle were on offer.
The sale topped at £6000 for the overall champion the first placed haltered Limousin heifer from Messrs Wilkinson, Ivy Farm, Leyburn and was purchased by Messrs Kitson, Five Houses Farm Shop.
The judging of the Kirkby Classic was in the capable hands of Mr Phil Sellers, Lincolnshire who had the difficult task of judging the fantastic entry of 61 show cattle put before him.
Taking the reserve championship was the first placed haltered Limousin steer from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon which sold to £3500 and was purchased by Messrs Wynne, Derbyshire.
The first placed rosette for our new class of Baby beef calves was awarded to a five month old Limousin heifer consigned by Messrs Pickles, Far Gearstones, Chapel le dale which went on to sell for £5200 again purchased by Messrs Kitson.
The largest entry of potential show cattle seen here at Kirkby Stephen to date was put before the judge with the haltered Limousin heifer class seeing a fantastic entry of nineteen heifers out to show and which attracted a packed ringside of potential buyers from the length and breath of the country. 61 show calves sold to average a whopping £2708.78 up £490.60 on the year.
Next highest price at £3800 was a 8 month old Limousin heifer from Messrs Brown, Asby Hall which received the first prize rosette in the younger Limousin heifer class and was purchased by Messrs Barnett, Shap. With Messrs Brown also selling a 10 month old Limousin heifer to make £3200.
Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House also received the first prize rosette in the haltered British Blue heifer class with a 10 month old selling to £3700 to Messrs Wynne, with 9 month Limousin heifers from this home selling for £2600.
Messrs Smith Jackson, Lipwood Haydon Bridge sold 10mth old BB steers to £3400 selling to Messrs Dickinson, Ashbourne.
Out with the prize winners Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick sold a 12 month old Limousin heifer to make £3700 also selling to Messrs Barnett, Shap.
Messrs Winn, High Underbrow, Burneside sold a 10 month old Limousin cross heifer to make £3100 again selling to Messrs Barnett.
Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Kirkby Stephen sold an 18 month British Blue heifer to make £3045 to Messrs Carroll.
Messrs Smith Jackson also old an 11 month old Limousin heifer to make £3000.
Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby sold a 12 month old Limousin steers to make £2475
Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras sold Limousin steers to make £2625.
Messrs Marston Easegill head sold 14 month old British Blue cross steers to make £2550.
Messrs Wood Waters Farm, Shap sold 13 month old Charolais steer to make £2500.
Trade was like nothing ever seen before with heifers averaging £1938.41 up £610.59 on the year steers averaged £1846.04 up £436.32 on the year with an overall sale average of £1882.49 been up £513.63 on the year with this predominantly been 8-10 month old cattle.
Well over a third of the cattle sold in excess of £2000.
