On Wednesday 5th March Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. A smaller entry of 383 Store cattle forward with less size on offer, despite this trade rose to the occasion and was flying once again for all shapes and sizes. The whole sale averaged a record £1962.46. Steers averaged a whopping £2038.76 and heifers at £1874.12.
Continental bullocks and heifers averaged £1981.58. Topping the sale overall was a British Blue cross from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan selling to £2700, the same home sold Limousins to £2680 and £2600. Charolais to £2600 from Messrs Thornton, Rougholm, Ravenglass.
Heifers sold to £2550 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Hall, West End, Carlisle and £2380 from Messrs Dickinson, Low House, Wigton. Charolais to £2300 from Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith.
Dairy bred cattle averaged £1678.50 topping at £1900 for a Fleckvieh steer from Messrs Wiseman, Pear Tree, Penrith. Friesians to £1770 from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton and Holstein Friesians to £1740 from Messrs Woodhouse, Stubb Place, Millom. Heifers sold to £1680 for Fleckviehs from Messrs Wiseman, Pear Tree and Friesians to £1540 from Messrs Storr, Fir Tree, Wigton.
