WREAYWOOD TOPS WITH RAGER PATSY
The May Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale topped at £2250 for a second lactation cow with the average remaining similar on the month; Holstein heifers averaged £1772. In total 218 animals changed hands with animals travelling the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. It is worth noting that the trade compared to the same month last year is £142 up on the year.
Wreaywood Holsteins sold 16 cows and heifers to average £1908 for their heifers and topped the trade with a second lactation cow selling for £2250. She was Red & White daughter of Rager Red giving 52kgs.
The Lyle family from Neither Pratis Farm in Fife sold 17 cows and heifers and topped the heifer trade at £2180 for a young heifer giving 37kgs sired by View-Home Buffalo. This impressive group averaged £1741.
A very productive consignment of heifers from the Hastwell family from the Buildings Farm near Kirby Stephen topped £2100 to average £1990. She was sired by Seagull-Bay Stone and was giving 34kgs
A smaller number of Ayrshire cattle were on offer and topped at £1900 for Swaites Lois from the Adamson family.
There was a very attractive group of 35 in calf heifers from the Innes family from Nairn topped at £1900 to average £1655. Selling for £1900 was Newmeadow Pepper Honeysuckle, she was sired by Delaberge Pepper and was bred from a VG dam from the Almondene herd in Lancashire.
Buyers appreciated the quality of the Red & White in calf heifers selling from the Mattinson family from the Troutbeck herd near Wigton. This powerful group averaged £1692 and topped at £1800 on several occasions.
Short Bred Holstein heifers due in September to the Angus topped at £1500 twice to average £1364 sold by Newhouse Farms, Dumfries.
