Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening when 4,827 sheep were forward consisting of 4,401 prime hoggs and 426 Cast Sheep. 

Topping the sale at £242 was a 49kg Beltex cross hogg from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York which was bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

JoJo also topped at 580.8p/kg for a pen of sixteen 39kg hoggs which made £226.50, with this home also selling a pair of 49kg hoggs to make £238, another pair of 49kg at £228, a pen of ten 40kg at £225 (562.5p/kg) a pen of twelve 41kg at £217.50 (530.5p/kg) and a pen of twelve 41kg at £215 (524.4p/kg).

The consignment of 102 hoggs from JoJo sold to average 42.3kg, £209.02, 494p/kg.

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pair of 47kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £227, with a pen of six 47kg making £215, a pen of eighteen 42kg at £214 (509.5p/kg) and a pen of seven 41kg making £210 (512.2p/kg) a pen of ten 47kg at £210, and a pen of nineteen 41kg at £208 (507.3p/kg).

Messrs Wynne, Hall Farm House, Derbyshire sold a pair of 42kg hoggs to make £216 (514.3p/kg).

Messrs Bosworth, Rossendale sold a pen of four 34kg hoggs to make £185 (544.1p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of eight 37kg Texel cross hoggs to make £181 (489.2p/kg).

Messrs Kiernan, Vale Farm, Preston sold 56kg Charollais cross hoggs to make £204, with 55kg Hill Cheviot hoggs making £170 and a pen of twenty three 45kg Hill Cheviot making £155.50 from this home. This home also sold a pen of 39kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £139.50 (357.7p/kg) .

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £186 for a pen of fourteen 65kg from Messrs Dawson, Mount Pleasant Farm, York with this home also selling a pen of 63kg Suffolks to make £184.50.

Messrs Dawson also sold a pen of twenty four 64kg Mule hoggs to make £166.50.

Suffolk cross hoggs topped at 363.6p/kg for a pen of 44kg which made £160 from Messrs Williams, Aberdeenshire with this home also selling a pen of twenty one 46kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £162 (352.2p/kg).

Messrs Copley, Heath Farm, Grantham sold a pen of fifteen 62kg Texel cross hoggs to make £190 with a pen of twenty 59kg Texel cross hoggs from this home making £186, and a pen of seventeen 56kg making £181 (323.2p/kg).

Messrs Wearmouth, Mossville, Barnard Castle sold a pen of fifteen 46kg Swaledale hoggs to make £143.50 (312p/kg).

Messrs Sayer, Musgrave House, Great Musgrave sold a pen of fourteen 38kg Swaledale hoggs to make £120 (315.8p/kg).

Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton sold a pen of twenty three 47kg Swaledales to make £145.

An SQQ average of 361.76p/kg and an overall average of 325p/kg for 4401 hoggs which includes over 1000 horned & mule hoggs!
